NEARLY ALL MODERN CARS HAVE AIR CONDITIONING. THESE SYSTEMS ARE OVERLOOKED WHEN THE CAR GOES FOR A SERVICE, USUALLY BECAUSE THE OWNER IS HAPPY THAT’S IT’S WORKING FINE. AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS NEED SERVICING EVERY TWO YEARS TO MAINTAIN THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE SYSTEM. A FULLY CHARGED SYSTEM WORKS MORE EFFICIENTLY AND SO INCREASES FUEL ECONOMY AND GREATLY INCREASES THE LIFE OF THE COMPRESSOR UNIT. THE SYSTEM CONTAINS REFRIGERANT WHICH WILL ESCAPE WITH TIME WHETHER USED OR NOT. WE OFFER A FREE AIR CONDITIONING VISUAL CHECK IF YOU ARE UNSURE WHETHER YOUR SYSTEM IS WORKING AS IT SHOULD, JUST POP IN.

AIR CONDITIONING RE-GAS (SERVICE) £40.00 + vat (£48.00) includes:
- Thorough pressure test of the system
this checks for any major or minor leaks in the system up to pressures in excess of 150 psi to ensure that when new refrigerant is put into your system it stays there instead of leaking into the atmosphere which is not only an expensive loss of money but also breaks environmental laws! Dry Nitrogen is used for this test as this does not react with the refrigerant. Should normal air be used the system would be contaminated resulting in future costly repairs. Should your car fail this test we will stop the re-gas procedure and only charge £15 + vat (£18) for the pressure test. We may be able to tell you what is needed to repair the leak, if not further investigation will be required to find it. Once the leak has been fixed we will only charge £25+vat to then re-gas your system.
- System clean and re-gas
Should the pressure test be ok, we will continue with vacuuming the system to remove contamination. This procedure takes approx. 15 minutes to do effectively, but will ensure the new gas remains effective for longer (similar concept to removing old engine oil before refilling with new when carrying out an oil service). After this, the refrigerant is put into the system. This has to be the correct amount for your model of car to work properly. Please note Autochoice only use ‘virgin’ R134a gas . This is different to recycled R134a which has inferior refrigerant properties.
The air con system should now work with immediate effect (subject to no electrical faults). We will also check to see if cooling fans are kicking in to ensure efficient operation.

WAS YOUR CAR MANUFACTURED BEFORE 1993 ?
CARS REGISTERED BEFORE THIS DATE MAY HAVE AN AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM DESIGNED TO RUN ON R12 WHICH IS A GAS THAT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE (DUE TO ITS NEGATIVE ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS)
WE ARE ONE OF ONLY A HANDFUL OF PLACES WHERE THIS SYSTEM CAN BE PRESSURE TESTED AND RE-GASSED WITH A SUBSTITUTE GAS CALLED RS24 WHICH IS A FRIENDLY SUBSTITUTE TO R12
THIS GAS IS HOWEVER MORE EXPENSIVE THAN R134a, SO WE CHARGE £75.00 + VAT (£90) FOR THIS SERVICE. HOWEVER, SHOULD A LEAK BE FOUND DURING THE PROCEDURE THAN A REDUCED FEE WILL BE CHARGED OF £25.00 +VAT (£30) TO COVER THE COST OF THE PRESSURE TEST.
